Cityfox Odyssey

The techno promoters Cityfox, originally from Zurich but based in Brooklyn, are among the city’s most reliable—their sound systems clear and detailed, their lighting and computer-generated visuals pin-sharp. The music can be predictable: roomy, fairly anonymous tech house, packed with long builds and portentous whooshes, tends to be the rule. But large rooms, full of celebrants, thrive on that kind of fare, and Cityfox Odyssey, a daylong New Year’s event at Avant Gardner (Dec. 31 at 9 P.M. to Jan. 1 at 11:59 P.M.), also features some of the sharpest acts mining that more traditional style—Âme, Sasha, and Solomun make those whooshes signify something substantial.
